In 1994 Kurt Cobain stated that the future of rock belongs to women.
Back in the day Riot Grrrl offered young, impressionable girls a mode of empowerment; an environment whereby they could express themselves and rebel against a society, and industry that was predominantly patriarchal.
It was unapologetic and vocal; it was about the female voice. It was about music; encouraging girls not to watch from the side lines but to be involved at a creative level.
So in celebration of this, here are some cool girls doing some cool stuff:
